ON MY RADAR: 2022 Songs in Review

Happy New Year everybody! I hope you had a marvellous end to your year and that 2023 is starting off gently. I actually stuck to my resolution to not turn on my computer over the break. I didn’t realize how refreshing that break would be. This means of course that I’m a bit late posting my songs of 2022 list. Though perhaps that isn’t a bad thing. There is so much going on during the holidays that I’m glad I didn’t add to the noise leading up to the New Year.

So here is my list of songs I liked from 2022. This is a playlist I keep throughout the year to which I add tracks which strike me. That is as the total of the curating I’ve done. On the subject of streaming and discovery, I use Apple Music because I’m led to understand that it pays the creators the most of the major streaming platforms. But also, ugh, streaming. I still buy a lot of music in physical form but it sure adds up quickly.

And while streaming music algorithms do push a lot of new stuff at you, it is of course, stuff based on your current listening habits. It is far too easy to stay in your bubble and thereby miss a ton of good music by relying solely on the algorithm. I much prefer good old fashioned music journalism the pinnacle of which, for me, is Under the Radar. They publish both a physical magazine and a near daily email newsletter. They also consume from a wide variety of styles within the broad category of “Independent” music.

Well worth your time is their list of the Top 100 albums of 2022. Check it out, perhaps you’ll discover your new favourite band! https://www.undertheradarmag.com/news/under_the_radars_top_100_albums_of_2022

And so here, in order of when in the year I heard the track, is my list of songs from 2022 both as a link to Apple Music but also as a series of YouTube link to, wherever possible, the music videos. because hey, music videos are the highest art form 😉 I hope you enjoy!
